ATOL Protection spearheads January marketing campaign’s

(0)

The Uk’s big 2 holiday companies, Thomson and Thomas Cook are to focus their January advertising on consumer protection.

Thomson Airways, the low cost flight section of Thomson Holidays are promoting the passenger protection ATOL cover on all flight only bookings. The move comes as both Thomson and recently aquired, First Choice start their early booking offers and national advertising.

Thomas Cook on the other hand have reverted back to it’s age old slogan, ‘Don’t just book it, Thomas Cook it‘. They researched that the slogan, last used in 1993, is still recognised by 75% of people in a survey taken by holiday makers. Their take on ATOL cover is slightly different and have said, any summer 2009 holiday, flight or cruise booked through Thomas Cook will be protected, so if a company they use goes bust, customers will get a refund within 24 hours regardless of ATOL membership.

Cheif Exec, Manny Fontenla-Nova said, “In the absense of the Government making any changes to the ATOL scheme, we are taking these steps to protect all our customers money. The collapse of airlines and holiday companies has highlighted the importance of consumer protection so they are not put off when parting with their hard earned money”.

Both companies have stated that consumers are confused about financial protection offered, not only by tour operators, but high street and travel agents. A spokesman said “we want to send a clear message to all potential customers, so they know before they book, their money is safe. People want the best value holiday aswell as the best protection”.
