Heathrow Third Runway Approved

(0)

Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon should announce this morning the Governments approval for a 3rd runway at Heathrow airport.

The project will also see an investment in public transport around the area which may include high speed rail links.  The Government will also try and keep critics happy by introducing methods to limit aircraft emissions and other environmental issues.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson said “It’s a classic dilemma – we want to forge ahead in implementing our climate change ambitions when others are not but we don’t want to lose our economic competitiveness in the process. We want to do both these things.”

Many airlines back the campaign as creating a third runway will boost the UK’s economy as it will create thousands of jobs within the airport and airline industry.

The Tories are against the proposal and have said, if elected, would cancel the third runway project.  They have also been back by the Liberal Democrats, who have said it better to invest in the transport systems around Heathrow first.

Most parties and members of the public may be in favour of the “Mixed Mode” operation, where the current 2 runways are used for landing and taking off together.

My opinion of the situation, is the airline industry should build bio-fuel planes and show everyone they are actual doing something to help the environment.  If this was the case I’m sure people would be less against such proposals in the future.
