Take a chance on Greece

(0)

Mamma Mia was the biggest selling DVD ever in the UK over Christmas, so why not think about taking your summer 2009 holiday on the stunning island of Skopelos in Greece where the film was made?

Skopelos doubled up as the fictional Greek Island of Kalokairi.  The hotel in Mamma Mia, Villa Donna, was unfortunatley a film set, so you can’t stay there.  The cast often stayed in the Skopelos Village hotel, this can be booked with Thomson Holidays.

The church scene was real and is the 18th century Agios Ioannis Church, it is the north east of the Island jutting out of the headland overlooking the deep blue sea and about 1 hour drive from Skopelos Town.  Many of the beach scenes were filmed at Kastani beach which is probably the best beach on Skopelos, which was sectioned off from the public when filming.

Flights are into Skiathos and you have to take a 45 minute hydrofoil to get to Skopelos port, which keeps Skopelos beautiful and unspoilt.  It’s best to book your Skopelos holiday early as demand will be great after the success of the film.
