An A320 US Airways airbus has crashed in the Hudson River in New York after hitting a flock of birds shortly after take off from La Guardia airport. All 148 passengers and 5 crew onboard survived and were resuced.
3 minutes after take off the pilot reported he had hit a flock of birds which took out 2 engines. He was set on returning to La Guardia but couldn’t make it sohe only option was to land the plane as safely as possible in the Hudson river.
Everyone onboard left the aircraft on landing in the river, and waited patiently on the wings of the aircraft before being rescued by local boats.
Eyewitnesses say the plane landed relatively softly on the water, which ensured the pilot did not break the fuselage.
